Pet Photography - Why you should get your pet photographed today!

Those of us who have had pets know that they are part of the family. Like our kids, our pets go from little fluffy puppies and kittens to fully grown in the blink of an eye! Some of my fondest memories from childhood were with our family dog, a black lab cross, and her silly, loving nature.  Unfortunately I don’t have many photographs of my dog and I together (yes, I’m old, and this was in a time before smartphones ;), and I wish I had more so that I could trigger more of the memories of those fun times we had together.

Professional outdoor photography of your pet, alone and with the family together, is the perfect way to preserve those memories and display them in a beautiful way in your home.

We find the best way to get natural photographs of your pets and kids is to do what pets and kids do best - play, gallop and roll around outdoors! Whether at a local dog-friendly beach or in your backyard with your cat, we can help to capture some amazing photographs of your pets and children having fun together.

We love to photograph all kinds of animals and pets, so invite us to meet your cats, puppies, rabbits, birds or even horses and we will capture their personality in a beautiful pet portrait! We are based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, but will travel to locations within the Sydney Metro area.

Sydney's Best Family Photography Session Locations

What are the best outdoor locations for family photography in Sydney?

It’s not everyday that you decide to hire a professional photographer to take photographs of your family! Once you finally choose the best photographer for you, it’s then time to choose the ideal location to have your session. Luckily, in Sydney we have an amazing array of outdoor photography locations to choose from. Choosing the right location helps the photographer to capture your family’s personality and create some beautiful, genuine images.

When you think of key places for family photos, you might immediately think of places like Centennial Park, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney Harbour Bridge, or popular beaches like Balmoral or Bondi.

While we love taking photographs in all of these locations, we have also carefully crafted a list of unique spots in and around Sydney to take our family clients. We choose them based on their scenery, lack of crowds and that feeling of getting off the beaten path. Many families are surprised when we suggest locations that they have never been to, despite having lived in Sydney for their whole lives.

Beach locations:

We love taking families of all ages to the beach! With little ones, it’s the ideal way to get them playing and being themselves, splashing in the waves or running along the sand. Beaches in Sydney often have a variety of backdrops, such as rock faces and cliffs, natural bushland and of course the waves and ocean itself. Some of our favourite secret beach locations are in the Northern Beaches, where the crowds are sparse and you can often have a large section of beach all to yourself!

Bushland locations:

Sydney’s natural bushland makes a perfect backdrop for family photographs. We can often find a large secluded section of bushland very close to populated areas, however in your images, it will appear as if you’re in the middle of nowhere. These, along with more manicured parks, are especially great for larger family groups and family sessions that include more elderly family members.

Manicured Parks:

Many parks around Sydney have beautiful landscaped gardens, showcasing some of the amazing plant life that flourishes here. One example is the Jacaranda trees that bloom in spring. We’ve found some parks that are unique and offer a variety of backdrops, making them ideal for family sessions.

Parks with Harbour and Water Views:

The best of both worlds, we have located some fantastic parks with both manicured and more natural gardens, as well as access to Sydney harbour or Parramatta River. Many of these are centrally located and easy to get to from all across Sydney.

Urban settings:

Sometimes there’s no better place than your own neighbourhood for your family session. Many of Sydney’s suburbs have an amazing amount of charm, especially those in the inner west. The CBD also offers some interesting backdrops for more edgy family photographs.

Bonus idea - A family photography session in your own home:

There is no place more unique for family photos than your own home or backyard! Children are often more comfortable in their own homes, and are lovely spaces to capture memories of their childhood. Sometimes simple is best!

Cute One Year Old Baby Session in Coogee, NSW

I had a great time photographing little Zoe and her parents during their family photo session in Coogee. We spent some time at their house, reading books and ‘playing’ with the cat, and then headed to the beautiful Coogee Beach for some stunning scenery.

These types of sessions are perfect for little ones, giving them some time in their home to get used to the camera, but also exploring the outdoors later on so that we have a nice variety of images.

We moved house last year, but we had spent 5 years raising our kids there. Having images of kids inside their childhood home is priceless and will help bring back happy memories for years to come.

Maternity Session at Little Manly Beach, Northern Beaches

Celia and Michael are very special clients of ours - we've photographed their engagement and wedding, and now their maternity session! We'll soon photograph their new baby as well :) We held their maternity session on a sunny winter's day at Little Manly beach in the lovely Northern Beaches.

They brought along their first 'baby', a sweet puppy named Journal. We had a lot of fun including him in the photos. It's actually easier to capture genuine smiles and laughter with a puppy running amok! It was such a pleasure taking part in this special milestone of Celia and Michael's, and we can't wait to meet their baby boy.

Sweet Family Photography Session at Rosherville Reserve, Mosman, NSW

We were so pleased to be asked to photograph little Julian and his baby brother Oskar! We have a lot of history with this sweet family - not only are they good friends of ours, but we have also photographed Karen and Luke's wedding and Julian as a newborn

The boys had a great time playing at Rosherville Reserve in Sydney's Northern Beaches. We love holding sessions at this park because of the great combination of beautiful leafy trees and the nearby Chinaman's Beach for ocean scenery.

These images highlight some of the reasons why we love photographing families. Being able to see the playfulness and love between a family and having it shine through in the images is the most rewarding thing. And you wouldn't even know that we started the session with a certain someone stepping in dog poo! Hahaha. The end result is still the same; memories captured for a lifetime.
